I emailed Katie back and forth during the summer about shooting her wedding in November 2011 and was so excited when she decided to book with me. I could tell in the emails how enthusiastic and happy she was to be planning her wedding since she was eagerly working on all the details for the wedding. We finally met in person in October (she lives in Denver, CO) and I she was even more enthusiastic and happy in person! She put together a lot of unique details and tweaked some of the usual traditions seen at other weddings and made it her own for her and Ben’s big day. I really couldn’t wait to photograph all of them. Almost all the details were handmade by her and her bridesmaids. All of those details paired at the beautiful Whitemore Mansion was a perfect match. All the hard work paid off and the ceremony and reception looked absolutely stunning. Both Katie and Ben (along with all their wedding party and families) were such a fun laid back group and it allowed for some awesome photos. Great Job Katie and Ben! Congrats you guys!

I was SUPER excited when my cousin, Ben,  asked me to photograph his wedding in November 2011. I figured since it would be in Simi Valley that it would be a perfect sunny day for a wedding outside. But the Weather sure has a mind of it’s own and it was very cold and stormy that weekend. But Ben and Tamarin didn’t let it affect their special day. It spoke a lot about them as a couple. Instead of getting upset or bummed out, they accepted it with open arms and made it work. They asked the venue to move the ceremony from outside to inside (excellent call) and the ceremony went perfectly. Thankfully, the wind and rain died down by the end of the ceremony and we were able to go outside to do some shots. Even when it started raining again, we worked with it and broke out the umbrellas and made it work. In the end, the day could not have gone more perfect and Ben and Tamarin said their “I Do’s” and now they are happily married. It was an honor to photograph their wedding and be part of their special day:)

  • Krista - So beautiful and fun! That umbrella shot is a hall-of-famer for sure! Great job as always :)ReplyCancel

This blog is for all the awesome couples I got to work with in 2011. Like I said in my last post, I felt so blessed this last year working with so many fun couples that I really wanted to do something that will be fun for all of you.  I want to hold a little contest! There is only  days left of 2011 and I have been thinking a lot about the journey I have been on for the past several years.

4 years ago I told my parents that I wanted to pursue my love for photography. They completely supported me but warned me of all the hard work I would have to do to achieve my dream especially since I didn’t want to attend school. I spent that 1st year really discovering all the basic to photography and my love for photography grew into a passion.

3 years ago this coming spring, I quit my  job to do photography full time. A job that had security and a steady paycheck. I was so nervous, but I took the leap knowing that God was in control and that if he gave me this passion and drive for this, he would somehow make this work. Little did I know the plans he had for me over the next 3 years. I went from doing 4 weddings in 2009, to 3 in 2010, and then this last year I did 18 weddings.

That’s right, 18. Not to mention the countless other portrait sessions I have done.

As I type that number, I feel my heart race and huge smile dawns on my face. I remember many times over the last 3 years, I was up late lying in doubt, wondering “God, are you sure is this what I should be doing?” His answer was always “Scot, I have a plan for you, just trust me.” So I did. And he has taken to places I could have only imagined. If you had asked me 2 years ago if I thought I would have 18 weddings booked for 2011, I would have laughed in your face. Funny how God has way of proving us wrong:)

As I think back on all the events of this year of 2011, I just want to thank each and everyone of you. For your support, your kind words of encouragement, and for allowing me to capture these important moments in each of your lives. To trust and allow me to be there on such important days of your lives is huge responsibility and huge honor. I have enjoyed each and every moment and I cannot wait to work with you in the future and I can’t wait to meet even more of you in 2012.

Thank you everyone. It has been a BLAST !:)
